Why do I need a denture?
For various reasons, dentures are often a great and affordable way to restore missing teeth. Having teeth to eat, smile, and function can restore a patient’s confidence and longevity. Dentures are a wonderful option for beautiful, functional teeth.
How does my dentist know I need a denture?
A thorough exam with x-rays is completed to determine if there are teeth that may need to be extracted due to decay or gum disease. At this visit, the overall condition of a patient’s mouth is assessed to make sure a denture is the best option. Sometimes, implants will be recommended with dentures to offer the most stable and secure denture and ensure a patient’s greatest satisfaction.
How are dentures made?
- Once the exam and x-rays are complete, custom impressions of a patient’s mouth are taken to verify that the denture fits their mouth perfectly.
- Following the initial impressions, there are a few other fittings to ensure the patient is completely satisfied with the fit, the look, and the function before the final denture is made.
- Once the patient and dentist are happy with the results, the denture is sent out for processing and the final denture is seated.
Implant Supported Dentures
If you are sick of using fixadent or having your dentures pop out at the most inopportune time, implant supported dentures may be a good option for you. Implant supported dentures or Overdentures are a more secure way to retain your dentures. Implants are placed in your mouth, and your denture is modified in such a way that the denture snaps into the implants. This allows the freedom to chew and not worry about them coming out. Implants also serve to protect your bone levels so that they do not resorb away.
